DOS USB DRIVER

Today I want to share you about DOS USB Driver. This post is made based on my experience when I have trouble with my laptop hard disk partition. I have to repair it with my self, but my laptop built-in DVD has broken.

The matter is i want to repair my hard disk partition without loosing data, so I can't install any OS (Operating System) yet before I backup my data from hard disk. I have to boot my laptop without Graphical OS installed in my hard disk, I have to work with DOS (Disk Operating System). I use external USB DVD-RW as booting device.

It is not easy to make a Bootable USB Flashdisk with old DOS Bootable CD or MS Windows 98 Setup CD. But the matter is how to use USB DVD-RW in DOS mode ??? As you know that physically laptop just have USB port to connect with other device. I decide to use Ubuntu Live CD to connect internet and get more information about that, and make a Bootable USB Flashdisk. Here is a trick to make a Bootable USB Flashdisk that can read external USB DVD-RW in DOS mode.

The USBASPI.SYS is driver file you need to do this. This file is also known as "Panasonic v2.06 ASPI Manager for USB mass storage".

This driver is capable of mapping only map mass storage devices like external hard disks, CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-RW, ZIP, JAZ, LS-120, Flash Disk, Flash Memory and many other USB devices to ASPI devices.

The driver switches you can use are: device=(path)USBASPI.SYS [/e] [/o] [/u] [/w] [/v] [/l[=n]] [/f] /r] [/slow] [/nocbc] [/norst] [/noprt]

You should be editing your config.sys and autoexec.bat files and add required changes to start using this driver.
